Salo Park
St. Anthony, MN

Salo Park is a bold statement about what a redevelopment park can be. Its wildly canted architecture and minimal palette are striking counterpoints to the brick and stucco of the surrounding buildings. It is also an important example of how landscape and architecture can come together to create a total space.

Here, the boundaries between structure and earthwork, stormwater and hardscape, groundplane and canopy are blurred. Aeration becomes a design element. Concrete descends into the water, rises up as architectural columns, and fades off into the savannah landscape. Salo Park is a visual and functional success – thanks to total design integration and the landscape architect’s tenacity.
