Nestled at the confluence of the Rum and Mississippi rivers this sacred Native American site was transformed from a wastewater treatment plant to a community park to promote understanding of the two rivers’ natural resource roles, and the rich history of the region. This landmark park is now alive with community events. Interpretive kiosks, overlooks, monuments, pavement art, and a council ring inform users of the site’s history and floodplain ecology.
Bonestroo designed the master plan and site components, and assisted with procuring a Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources Grant to help pay for the project. Constrained by a limited budget, the site details were simplified to enable City crews to build many of the site improvements.
