The City Trees Guidelines and Best Management Practices were developed to support the innovative Hawthorne Eco Village in Minneapolis. The project combines urban trees and landscape design with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified affordable housing. The goal is to create a sustainable green neighborhood.
Tree Trust and Bonestroo created better landscape guidelines and best management practices the City can adopt, providing the basis for better decisions and long term sustainability of this LEED Neighborhood Development project.
The guidelines help produce a green, affordable exterior environment that: Results in a high-quality, healthy living environment; Lowers residents’ utility costs; Enhances residents’ connection to nature; Conserves energy, water, materials, and other resources; and Advances the health of local and regional ecosystems.
