Long and Farquar Lakes are both on the state’s 303d list of impaired waters and have been a source of concern for years due to poor water clarity, fish kills, and exotic weed infestations.

Bonestroo worked hand-in-hand with the City, affected residents, and agencies to forge a Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) for the lake that would meet regulatory requirements. Organizations formerly at odds with each other on how to improve the lake were united in a joint effort to reach a common goal. We then laid out a practical strategy using carefully selected watershed improvement measures and a sequence of innovative in-lake management practices to bring the lakes back and meet accepted lake water quality criteria.
