McKusick Lake and Ravine Improvements, Stillwater, MN
Stormwater runoff threatened this historic state-designated trout stream near the City of Stillwater. The City chose Bonestroo to determine how best to protect the creek. We also managed stormwater, developed parkland and trails in a City-owned ravine, while maintaining the area’s natural amenities. Stormwater flow was diverted from the development area to McKusick Lake. This diversion protected Brown’s Creek from the warm runoff, sediments, and pollutants. The addition of new stormwater ponds upstream improved the quality of McKusick Lake. The boardwalk and trails completed throughout the project area connect several parks, the historic downtown, and new developing areas. Improvements in the ravine also included adding a pedestrian trail and restoration of native plant communities.
