Spring Creek Slope Stabilization, Carver, MN
Due to the levels of erosion already occurring in the bank, implementing a gradual slope design was not an option. Because the preservation of the trail and dike was a constraining factor in the slope engineering, Bonestroo developed solutions that would allow for a steep slope which typically would not be stable enough to avoid erosion. The solutions featured a bioengineering technique called vegetated crib. The vegetated crib wall is a box-like timber structure with six-inch gaps to allow vegetative establishment between the timbers. The timbers provide temporary stability for the first several years, allowing the vegetation to establish and stabilize the slope.
